Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix 2013

A trip to the Eifel mountains for the Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix 2013 saw Nick Eden driving the Cooper Bristol Mk1 with renewed vigor leading the class by 3 seconds after qualifying leaving perpetual class winner Paul Grant and Ian Nuthall’s Cooper Bristols in his wake.  This dominance continued in race 1 with Eden having a 30 second lead over his nearest challenger at the chequered flag and a he came within a lap of repeating this success the following day before an engine gremlin stopped him out on track.  This left Grant to close out the class victory with Nuthall following him home 3rd in class in Mary Grant’s Cooper Bristol.

Silverstone Classic 2013

INRacing were kept busy with 13 competing cars over the Silverstone Classic 2013 weekend. Spread over 6 different races the first cars out on track were the Jamun T2s of William Nuthall and the recently rebuilt car of Chris Helliwell, in the massive 53 car Historic Formula Ford grid. They both survived a number of red flag incidents to qualify 4th and 52nd. In the first race Nuthall dropped back down to 9th after collecting a marker bollard and Helliwell gradually moved up to 41st. In the 2nd race Nuthall recovered and was very happy to finish 6th in the competitive grid, as was Helliwell to finish 34th.
Tony Wood and Alasdair McCaig qualified the Wood’s Lister Jaguar 13th in the Stirling Moss Trophy, after a great first stint by Tony, Alasdair unfortunately got stuck in gear on the exit to the pits ending their hopes.
Barry Wood was out with Tony in the RGS Atalanta and moved up from 14th at the rolling start to finish 8th and 2nd in Class in the RAC Woodcote Trophy.  The father and son also teamed up in the E-Type Jaguar in the Pre ’63 GT grid, a great qualifying lap from Tony put them up in 6th after qualifying, following the pit stops the pair dropped down to 13th.
The Pre ’61 HGPCA grid included three INRacing run Cooper Bristols. Barry Wood and Steve Russell qualifying within 2 seconds of each other, eventually monopolising the Class 5 podium at the end of race two. But only after a broken rocker shaft was found and rectified overnight on Scuro’s car. Tony Wood took a superb pole position in the TecMec Maserati and he fought for the lead throughout the 2 races, finishing 3rd and 2nd overall.
A great British downpour during the 1st Pre ’66 HGPCA race saw it cut short as visibility was dramatically reduced. The two races saw Paul Griffin (Cooper T51) Stephen Bond (Lotus 18) and Erik Staes (Lotus 18/21) stay out of trouble to finish in the middle of the field.  It was Belgian Staes first double race finish after being plagued by problems for the past 5 years.
Next stop for the HGPCA is Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix.

Metro 6R4 Eifel Rallye Festival July 2013

Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy

Mallory Park again hosted the Vintage Sports Car Club’s Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy, Steve Russell racing the iconic mans Cooper Bristol. Steve’s car was joined by the Mk1 Cooper Bristol of Nick Eden and the similar Mk2 driven by William Nuthall.
A damp VSCC and typically oil strewn qualifying caused tricky conditions which left Nuthall to the fore. After a good start he didn’t look back in Mary Grants kindly loaned Cooper to repeat his first victory in the event in 2011. Russell and Eden had some good battles, with a misfire ultimately dropping Eden back down the field.

Dijon July 2013

Due to a split in the decisions of the individual race organisers INRacing made another trip to Dijon July 2013.   This time it was the turn of the Sportscars with Barry and Tony Wood taking on driving duties in Lister Jaguar and E-Type Jaguar.

The Lister Jaguar participated in both the GT and Sports Car Cup two hour race and the one hour Stirling Moss Trophy.  The Stirling Moss Trophy provided the pair with 3rd in class and 6th overall.  In the GTSCC Tony qualified the car up in 5th place of the 32 entrants however a problem during the final half hour of the race saw them drop down the field, still coming out with class spoils.

The E-Type Jaguar was out in the Pre ’63 GT race, where after an hours race the Wood team finished 8th and 3rd in class.

Metro 6R4 Goodwood Festival Of Speed July 2013

The 20th Anniversary of the Festival Of Speed turned out to be a really successful event for Team Saunders and Hart in the Unipart MG Metro 6R4 C96 KOG. Their second consecutive annual outing at the FOS and the car ran faultlessly during the weekend, even in the 30 degree temperatures that prevailed each day.

Unfortunately, due to the extreme dry weather conditions, the course deteriorated from day one, with several deep pot holes and badly rutted areas – which resulted in Saunders/Hart damaging the lower front bumper section on the car and the underbody guard got a real pounding! Despite this a really good event all round.

On the Saturday the Metro was reunited with its original co-driver Neil Wilson, who signed the navigator door pocket.

The Metro is currently owned and driven by John Saunders, co-driven by Tony Hart.

Grand Prix de L’Age d’Or 2013

The historic flowing circuit of Dijon Prenois hosted the June round of the HGPCA series in the summer sun of Grand Prix de L’Age d’Or 2013.

The Maserati 250F of Klaus Lehr was repaired in time to make the Pre ’61 grid,  finishing 2nd in Class.

Giorgio Marchi’s Cooper T53 was again raced by William Nuthall, who qualified 3rd.  Close battles between the top three in both races resulted in two visits to the second step podium.

Stephen Bond had both the Lotus 18 and the Lister Bristol in Dijon.  His ever increasing confidence in the 18 was rewarded with 2nd in Class in both the Pre 66 races.  Stephen’s co-driver Keith Fell raced the Lister Bristol to 3 place overall in the concluding HGPCA Sportscar race on Sunday.

INRacing looks forward to returning Dijon in a few weeks!

Masters Historic Festival May 2013

Brands Hatch was the next stop on the HGPCA calendar where they were supporting the May Bank Holiday Masters Historic Festival May 2013.

INRacing transported 8 cars down to Kent including the Belgian owned cars of Paul Grant and Marc Valvekens repaired just in time from problems two weeks before in Pau.

William Nuthall qualified 4th of the evocative 33 car grid in Giorgio Marchi Cooper T53.  William ran up in 2nd before a few problems and a big moment on some oil http://youtu.be/piooPA70gqo dropped him down to finish 5th and 3rd in class.

Alberto Scuro was out for the 1st time in his Cooper Bristol and joined the similar cars of Barry Wood, Steve Russell and Paul Grant.  Paul Grant won the Class 5 battle and Barry Wood followed home to take 3rd in Class.  Stephen Bond came through to a solid finish in the ex Moss Lotus 18.

The INRacing powered Lister Bristol of Stephen Bond finished a fantastic 4th overall in the 50 minute RAC Woodcote Trophy.
